Allotment Diary September 2009

Saturday 19th September
We went before lunch and didn't get home till a late tea time. Me and mum weeded and lifted two rows of potatoes. The variety with the worst scab is Desiree and the best variety so far is Markies. It has cropped heavily, had minimal slug damage and fairly clean skins. We harvested a couple of pumpkins and a cucumber. Phil, Sarah, Emily and Alice walked down (babies in pushchair) and they got some plums to take home. Dad weeded lots on the bottom plot and we set a fire and dad kept it going.

Sunday 13th September
We went in the afternoon and harvested sweetcorn, courgettes, beetroot, cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes and did some more weeding. We also planted the Japanese onions and garlic to overwinter.

Sunday 6th September
We went in the afternoon for a couple of hours. I have been very under the weather since Friday and mum and dad have been stripping the downstairs toilet of tiles. The weeds have grown well but the harvest was quite large. I weeded an area and planted out some cabbage and sowed some salad (late but maybe we will get something). We harvested plums, pears, cabbage, calabrese (not sure how as it is very late!), sweetcorn, carrots, beetroot, tomatoes, courgettes, cucumber and celeriac.
