Sunday 30th August
Me and dad went and lit the fire. Dad thinned the turnips, weeded on the road side of the bottom plot and used 2 sprayers (5 litre) of weedkiller on paths around the plots. I weeded the rest of a potato row and harvested it. All the weeds we dug up today went on the fire.
Saturday 29th August
in the morning I topped up the chicken feed and strung the rest of the onions that we brought home last weekend.
Me and mum went to take compost and do some harvesting. We harvested half the sweetcorn, 4 tubs of plums, blueberries and the red onions, beetroot, cauliflower, tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes and some salad. Later with dad we stripped the sweetcorn and put the onions to dry. I planted some spring cabbage in the greenhouse at home and then we blanched the sweetcorn.
Monday 24th August
Started stringing the onions which we had brought home from the allotment already.
Sunday 23rd August
Mum made plum jam while I made tomato, chili, onion and garlic with some cider vinegar sauce.
Saturday 22nd August
We went in the morning and I flamed off where we had weed killered previously. Dad patched up the shed door, glued it and painted over the repair to make it less obvious. Mum harvested peas, french beans, courgettes, plums and so on. I found a decent sized cucumber for us to take away too. I harvested a quarter of a row of potatoes as they had died back a couple of weeks ago near the road (weeding as I went). We also burnt some of the weeds on the fire drying mesh.
Sunday 16th August
Me and dad took the compost and harvested a cauliflower and some calabrese.
We all spent hours preparing, processing and freezing various veg. I made a jar of pickled onions and mum made some soup.
Saturday 15th August
I went to the plot before lunch and harvested some plums from the tree. Then I watered and fed in the greenhouses. I lifted the shallots and some more onions and weeded as I went. I lit the fire and fed it slowly so it didn't make too much smoke and dodged the showers in the greenhouse. I also lifted the pickling onions that I started from seed. Mum brought my sandwiches down around 2pm and harvested french beans, peas, mangetout and broad beans. She then lifted some of the plants.
Sunday 9th August
We all went in the morning and it really heated up before lunch so we called it a day. Mum harvested the rest of the first row of potatoes, dad weeded some more and I weed killered the paths and where the raspberries used to be (the stubborn grass is really tough and we don't want to dig up the paths to get it out. We staked some of the trees which were starting to lean and harvested some tomatoes, beetroot and other bits and pieces. Dad finished podding the peas from yesterday, mum prepared beetroot and the smallest onions for in the fridge. I cooked two Jalapeno peppers and they have a little too much of the bell pepper smell about them. The chili peppers don't seem to have this so we find them quite nice to cook and eat but we may have to abandon the Jalapenos.
Saturday 8th August
We went early and did lots of weeding. I lifted onions as I went and we harvested peas, broad beans, french beans (green and purple) an apple from the discovery tree, a couple of pears, a few plums, courgette, cauliflower, cabbage, carrots and some salad. Overall a very productive but hot steamy day.
Monday 3rd August
We went after work and did some weeding and I planted main crop turnip. After when the site had quietened off I had a small fire to burn off some weeds.
