Allotment Diary May 2009

Sunday 31st May
We all went to the allotment and planted out the sweetcorn and two courgette plants. We had to do some more weeding to fit them all in. Dad started a fire and we burnt some of the old chicken house and dealt with some of the weed pile using it. Dad watered around quite a lot of the young and drought susceptible crops.

Me and mum went early to receive a delivery of manure from Sowood farm. Price was the same as last year and it looks very good again.
We picked dad up and then all went to the allotment to do what needed doing. I planted freanch beans and some salad. Mum planted the radish and helped prepare for the beans by weeding out some roots. Dad piled the manure that had spilled quite wide and watered and I did some hoeing.

Thursday 7th May
Mum and dad took the timbers down from the old chicken house, some to burn and some to use as stakes etc. Dad watered the seed beds and onions while mum dug up remaining leeks to compost and did a little weeding. Harvested a spring cabbage.
