Allotment Diary March 2009

Sunday 29th March
We all went down and weeded anywhere that needed it.

A row of potatoes Blossom and buds on pear tree Brassicas under wires Weeding for brassicas Bed for carrots etc. Strawberry bed Rhubarb and currant bushes Rhubarb and currant bushes Kale , purple sprouting and onions Kale and onions Bottom plot Middle and top plots

Friday 27th March
Mum and dad planted 1st early potatoes (19) Pentland Javelin next to raspberries in the top half of the row and 2nd early potatoes (19) Wilja in the lower half of the row. Weeded some more on bottom rear plot and between strawberries.

Wednesday 25th March
Mum and dad weeded on bottom plot rear plot.

Sunday 22nd March
Me, mum and dad went and planted the onions, garlic and shallots (after finishing digging and preparing the bed). In total there are around 600 onions so we should be ok for these this year! Me and mum weeded some of the strawberry bed and dad weeded on the other plots.

Saturday 21st March

Mum and dad weeded.

Mum and dad weeded and harvested parsnip and leek.

Tuesday 17th March
Mum and dad weeded.

Sunday 15th March
Me, mum and dad planted out cabbage and cauliflower that had overwintered in the greenhouse at home. Then we all weeded on the top plot for a couple of hours and dad weeded some on this years Brassica bed on the bottom plot. I used weed killer on another path while mum and dad tidied up.
When we got home one of the chickens had been pecked at and the others had blood on their faces. Looks like she had laid an egg causing some blood which the others then picked on or it was the fact that she lost quite a few feathers after having some diarrhoea the other week.

Friday 13th March
Washed a chickens as it had messy feathers. Also put potatoes to chit in the porch. The seeds I planted on the first of March are growing well.

Thursday 12th March
Mum and dad did some more weeding at the allotment. Harvested some rhubarb to make a crumble for tea.

Wednesday 11th March
Mum and dad weeded.

Sunday 1st March
I planted quite a few things in seed trays and some salad into a trough including a mixed salad leaf to try growing in the house on a windowsill. The seeds in the tray were Tomatoes (Golden Sunrise, Garden Pearl, Marzano, Red Cherry, Marmade, Tigerella, Gardeners Delight and Ailsa Craig), Golden Berry, Chilli pepper Tokyo Hot and a Jalapeno.
