Allotment Diary October 2007
Wednesday 31st October
Mum and dad went in the morning and finished harvesting the last of the
potatoes, two small turnips and tidied brassica plants and lit fire.
Took small piece of black weed matting down to communal plot in
wheelbarrow.
Tuesday 30th October
Mum and dad harvested some potatoes, carrots, parsnips, salad leaf,
cabbage, outdoor tomatoes, turnip and swede.
Thursday 25th October
Me and dad walked down over the golf course to the allotment in the
afternoon and harvested a parsnip, two carrots, three leeks some
sprouts and a turnip.
Sunday 21st October
I Turned one of the compost bins which had putrified a bit so smelt a
bit bad. I planted 50 onions (snowball - winter onion) and 3 cloves of
garlic (Marco) with dad. Dad weeded on the bottom plot, mum harvested
potato and I pulled some lower leaves off the sprouts.
Saturday 20th October
Mum harvested potato and dad weeded on the potato bed.
Friday 19th October
Me, mum and dad went down for an hour to see how I would survive as I
am sick off work. I was alright for a bit then started sneezing and
feeling awful again so we went home. I managed to trim back about 1/3rd
of the strawberry plants, mum harvested lots of veg including sprouts,
carrot, parsnip, turnip etc. Dad did more weeding as well as cutting
the grass around the plots.
Tuesday 16th October
Mum and dad went before lunch and swept out a greenhouse, washed pots
and trays, harvested carrots, turnips, courgettes and composted chili
pepper plants. Dad planted the Japanese onion sets and weeded lots.
Friday 12th October
Mum and dad went down after lunch and dad did lots of weeding and
harvested a cabbage and an enormous beetroot. Mum harvested a full row
of red potatoes (Desiree) and two courgettes.
Wednesday 10th October
Mum and dad went to the plot before lunch and harvested lettuce, salad
leaf, tomatoes, carrots, turnip, courgettes and parsnip. Put tomato
plants for burning and spread the compost from the pots onto the potato
plot.
Saturday 6th October
Mum and dad went to the plot in the afternoon, mum harvested rest of
the row of potatoes dug up yesterday and dad did lots of tidying and
weeding particularly on the top plot ready for onions and the bottom
plot near the incinerator.
Friday 5th October
Mum and dad went to the plot, dad cut grass and weeded. Mum harvested
about two-thirds of a row of potatoes (Wilja).
Thursday 4th October
Mum went to plot and harvested remainder of second early potato row.
Weeded section on top plot between stillages, purple sprouting broccoli
and top of plot ready for onions. Harvested carrots, turnip, kohl rabi,
peas, beans, courgettes, tomatoes, lettuce and salad leaf.
