Allotment Diary July 2007

Sunday 29th July
Me, mum and dad went down in the morning. I watered in the greenhouses, lifted the red onions (composting any that had slug holes and were soft), harvested tomatoes and planted out some salad leaf. Mum and dad harvested strawberries, currants, courgettes, cucumber, beetroot, carrots, kohl rabi, and two apples. Dad cut the grass and all of us weeded and hoed.

Tuesday 24th July
Mum and dad harvested potatoes, cabbage (5lb woppa), courgettes, mangetout, lettuce. Planted out salad leaf and lettuce plants and wallflower seeds (1 row). Weeded.

Sunday 22nd July
It is still very wet on and off (mainly on though). Me, mum and dad managed to get down to the allotment this morning. The weeds have certainly thrived while we can't work for the wet.
Dad cut the grass and watered and fed the tomatoes. He also did some weeding and tidying around the plots. Mum harvested strawberries and put rotten ones into the compost as well as weaving in the mange tout and lifting cloches off some more brassicas. I harvested some baby carrots, courgette, leaf salad and a beetroot and helped with the grass. I decided that the Japanese onions had done all that they can and to lift them before they start to rot in the ground. Luckily none had any rot so we must have timed this right this year.

Wednesday 18th July
Mum and dad trimmed tomato plants and watered. Harvested potatoes, strawberries, leaf salad, courgette and cabbage. Weeded.

Saturday 14th July
Me and dad went down in the afternoon to harvest some lettuce and beetroot, also got a couple of courgettes and carrot thinnings as well. We harvested the garlic and brought it home to dry off, some had started to rot because of the large amount of rain we have had this year.

Tuesday 10th July
Mum and dad cut grass, watered, weeded, harvested couple of carrots, raspberries, strawberries and blackcurrants.

Sunday 8th July
Me, mum and dad planted more peas, moved more wire cloches off the brassicas. Covered pea seed row with them and kohl rabi seed row too.
Harvested potatoes, leaf salad, lettuce, beetroot, carrot, strawberries, raspberries, black and white currants. Did lots of weeding and hoeing.

Thursday 5th July
Mum and dad watered in greenhouse, cut grass, Harvested potatoes, salad leaf, cabbage, soft fruit. Moved some of wire cloches off brassicas. Put shredded paper in compost bin.

Monday 2nd July
Mum and dad weeded and watered.
