Allotment Diary February 2007

Wednesday 28th February
Mum and dad weeded on bottom plot near fire and did some reinforcing with canes to perspex as wind was bending it. Replaced one of the screws in the door transem for a larger one. Very windy again, ground still quite wet.

Monday 26th February
We started off the mushroom kit by putting the clear bag of compost into the polystyrene. Me, mum and dad went to the allotment to get some smaller (3”) pots to plant tomatoes and chilli peppers on the window sill at home. We were going to plant some more onion sets, but the ground was far too waterlogged at the allotment. Planted 14 Ailsa Craig (normal tomato), 14 Gardeners Delight (cherry tomato) and 12 Hot Stuff chilli peppers. Me and dad then took cuttings from the Rosemary and dug up a small amount of mint to grow on to move to the allotment later in the year.

For first early we have Pentland Javelin and there are 56 tubers, Second early Nadine there are 68 tubers, late second early Wilja there are 33 tubers. Looks like we have more than the 3 rows I had planned for. Luckily there was lots of room on this half plot in my planning!
