Allotment Diary December 2007

We have been down mainly to harvest root vegetables, brassicas and leeks during this cold wet month.
The most interesting change this month has been the introduction of 3 chickens to our back garden. They have taken a little while to settle in and really enjoy some greens and wheat as a treat!
still no eggs though... I guess they will lay when they are ready!

Monday 31st December
Mum, dad and me went to harvest some more veg.

Thursday 27th December
We have been down a couple of times to take down manure (provided by our 3 happy hens in the garden) and to harvest some of our winter produce.

Wednesday 12th December
Mum and dad harvested cabbage, cauliflower, sprouts, carrots, parsnips, swede, turnip, leeks and salad leaf.

Tuesday 11th December
I haven't been to the allotment for a while as it has been very wet on a weekend. Me, dad and mum have been working hard to make a chicken coop which we have now completed and are on with making a large run for it. On Sunday we got 3 Rhode Island Red chickens from glencroft poultry near Catterick. They are starting to settle in now, but by the time I get in from work they have put themselves to bed and mum and dad have closed the door.
