Me, mum and dad weeded.
Thursday 22nd May
Mum and dad went for an hour in the afternoon, mum watered in
greenhouse, trimmed tomatoes and weeded on strawberry bed and dad
watered with hosepipe most crops and cut grass.
Tuesday 20th May
Mum planted some purple sprouting broccoli seed in a pot in the
greenhouse.
Monday 19th May
Dad tried to earth up the potatoes but the ground is like concrete, he
hoed around the onions, mum pulled up the purple sprouting broccoli as
it is about done now.
Saturday 17th May
Me and dad went down to check everything over and to top up the water
in the trays in the greenhouse.
Thursday 15th May
Mum and dad weeded in the afternoon. Covered some more brassicas with
the strawberry netting. Watered.
Wednesday 14th May
Mum and dad went down in the morning, dad lit the bonfire and burnt a
lot of the weeds, weeded and tidied around. Mum planted brassicas out
and dad helped cover most of them with wire and mesh.
Tuesday 13th May
Mum and dad went down in the afternoon, dad weeded on top plot after
emptying the water butt and reseating it using the large flagstone they
had taken down with them. Mum weeded on middle plot near the manure
pile and also covered the pea seed rows with wires and netting to
protect the young shoots as they emerge. Took down the last tray of
sweetcorn seedlings.
Monday 12th May
Mum and dad bought some more compost and water trays, plus a new
watering can. Mum potted on the chilli pepper plants and some of the
tomatoes at home. In the afternoon mum made room in the greenhouse on
the bottom plot for tomatoes and potted on some more of the tomato
plants (just four to pot on at plot now) and took down a tray of the
sweetcorn seedlings. Dad weeded on the top plot. We all went down in
the evening, taking another tray of sweetcorn seedlings with us and
watered using the hosepipe, dad repaired the greenhouse closing catch.
Sunday 11th May
Mum and I went down in the morning and met the farmer with a trailer
load of manure which he tipped onto the middle plot. We all went down
in the afternoon and did some flame weeding, hoeing and weeding.
Saturday 10th May
Dad did lots of weeding and watering, mum did lots of weeding and I did
lots of flame weeding, weeding and seed planting.
I put in some Kale (Scarlet and Dward Green Curled), Swede (Helenor),
Turnip (Golden Ball) and Kohl Rabi (F1 Lanro).
By about 3 in the afternoon it was too warm so we came home.
Friday 9th May
Mum and dad went down for an hour in the afternoon and planted out some
courgettes and squash plants.
Thursday 8th May
Mum and dad went down in the morning and weeded brassica plot. Watered.
Mum potted on some flower seedlings and tomato plants in the greenhouse.
Wednesday 7th May
Mum and dad planted mangetout (Delikata) and 2 rows of peas (Onward and
Kelvedon Wonder), also some radish. Watered seed beds and harvested
rhubarb.
Me and dad went down to water on bikes when I got in from work.
Tuesday 6th May
Mum moved some more raspberries and dad weeded.
Monday 5th May
Dad weeded on the top plot near the raspberries, flame weeded some
dandelions and on the main area on the middle plot.
Me and mum prepared and sowed most of the salad crops including
lettuce, leaf salad, land cress, chard, beetroot etc. I flame weeded
lots on the middle plot and took care of many dandelions too as well as
getting between the fruit bushes some more. Mum prepared a new seed bed
area on the top plot so that we can start putting in some brassicas
such as turnips, radish, kale etc. later this week. She also weeded
between many of the potato rows.
Sunday 4th May
The three of us went at about 9am to do some more planting and weeding.
Dad did lots of weeding and helped me and mum with sowing the Broad
Beans (Red Epicure and Meteor) and French Beans (Borlotto, Contender,
Golden Wax Roquencourt and Purple Queen). Me and mum started to prepare
for the carrots and salsify, but the rain at lunch forced us to go home
as the ground became a bit soggy.
Saturday 3rd May
Me, mum and dad went in the morning and took lunch with us (bacon and
our own eggs to cook at the allotment!) We weeded on the top plot front
half and that is now complete. I prepared a seed bed on the bottom plot
to plant two rows of parsnips and pulled the flower heads off the
rhubarb plants. There is a lot to do on the middle plot this year and
the raspberry patch is becoming a nettle bed again so must be dealt
with.
Thursday 1st May
Mum and dad bought a new wheelbarrow for plot and they cut the grass.
