Allotment Diary November 2006

Tuesday 28th November
Mum and dad weeded on bottom and top plots. Harvested 2 swedes, some leaf salad and spinach.

Monday 27th November
Dad weeded a bit on bottom and middle plots, mum and dad planted out spring cabbage seedlings 3 rows in all about 38-40. Mum harvested parsnips, leeks and a turnip.

Wednesday 22nd November
Mum and dad went down to harvest the remaining carrots before they get frosted any worse, a couple of parsnips and some leeks. I went down with them and mainly got in the way as I am unwell with a virus, good job I had thermal trousers, long shirt, jumper, two fleeces and a woolly hat on to keep out the cold! Tiring watching others work when you are ill.

Lid for composters finished using some landscape fabric to keep in warmth and moisture. Sunday 19th November
Me, mum and dad walked down and harvested some carrots and lettuce today, it was a lot colder and Sarah and Phil came down too.

Saturday 18th November
Me and dad went down and covered the compost lid pallets with some of the black weed matting that we had been using. Hopefully this will keep the rain out and let the heap warm up.

Thursday 16th November
Mum weeded top plot, dad weeded bottom plot. Harvested parsnip, leek and turnip.

Tuesday 14th November
Mum and dad weeded on top plot and harvested carrots.

Sunday 12th November
Me, mum and dad went down in the morning for a couple of hours. Me and dad added protection to the ends of the compost bins and chose pallets to fit on top. The timbers were trimmed underneath so that they can be tipped up easily to add more materials to the heaps. They will be covered soon with some matting to keep the warmth in. We limed for the spring cabbage and mum weeded and harvested leeks and turnips.

Old shed roofing plastic added as sides to the compost bins and pallets as a lid. Top plot limed, spring cabbage in, salad leaf under fleece and parsnips still in the ground.

Thursday 9th November
Mum and dad harvested lettuce and carrots. Weeded on top and bottom plots.

Brussel sprouts growing well. Across the bottom plot.fruit trees and the across the bottom plot. The top plot.Onions and garlic under wire cloches.

Tuesday 7th November
Mum and dad weeded on the bottom plot again.

Monday 6th November
Mum and dad weeded on the bottom plot near the leeks.

Leeks, carrots, parsnips, turnip and salad leaf harvest.Sunday 5th November
Me, mum and dad went to the allotment we planted garlic, elephant garlic and Japanese onions. We tried to burn the weeds again, tidied the sunflowers into the compost bins and harvested lettuce (from under fleece), carrots, parsnips, turnip and leeks.

Thursday 2nd November
Dad finished digging over where potatoes had been, composted tomato and cucumber plants from greenhouse and emptied pots. Weeded on top plot. Mum weeded ready for onions again. Harvested turnip, swede and leek.

Wednesday 1st November
Weeded for spring cabbage, dug over where potatoes were. Covered lettuce with just fleece.
