Allotment Diary October 2005

Monday 31st October
Mum and dad weeded and harvested a cabbage, a cauliflower, a turnip and a kohl rabi. Tried burning weed pile with little success. Took strawberry plants down and put in greenhouse. Brought tomatoes home to finish ripening. Brought home some of the rubbish we have found on the plot including an old metal watering can to dispose of.

Sunday 30th October
Purchased 6 strawberry plants.

Saturday 29th October
Mum and dad weeded bottom plot. Prepared bed12feet by 2feet by digging in well rotted manure (3 barrow loads) and dad planted Japanese Onion Sets.

Friday 28th October
Mum and dad went down and weeded, harvested a cauliflower, courgettes and tomatoes. Thanks to the warm weather there is still a lot of growing going on.

Wednesday 25th October
Mum and dad weeded.

Sunday 23rd October
My mum and dad went down to weed and water. Harvested a cabbage and composted one because it had so many slugs!!!

Monday 17th October
Had an onion from the garden and the peas that we managed to grow, there weren’t that many though.

Sunday 16th October
Me, mum and dad did some weeding, harvested 3 tomatoes, 2 marrows (huge marrows!) and a turnip. Dad did some cutting back of the brambles at the back of the plot, mum planted 6 pots with lettuce in the greenhouse to see how they do and I did some general tidying around on the main bed to stop the fallen vegetation rotting.

Thursday 13th October
Mum and dad weeded bed with veg growing in it, raked and weeded bottom plot. Harvested 4 courgettes.

Tuesday 11th October
Mum and dad started burning weed pile, but did not burn well. Weeded near greenhouse and on the bottom plot again.

Monday 10th October
Mum and dad weeded near greenhouse and on the bottom plot.

Sunday 9th October
Me and dad did about an hours weeding on the bottom and middle plots. Harvested a cabbage and a turnip and turned the tomatoes that are ripening in a tray in the greenhouse. Pulled the radish to compost them, because they have gone huge and split open after the heavy rain.

Friday 7th October
Mum and dad weeded bottom plot and raked off weed tops on top plot. Tied tomato plants and placed some green tomatoes in greenhouse to ripen.

Monday 3rd October
Mum and dad weeded near greenhouse and on the bottom plot, also dug out and cut back some brambles. Raked some areas on bottom plot to help clear for weeding.

Sunday 2nd October
Me and dad harvested cabbage, turnip, kohl rabi and courgettes. Generally tidied. Composted the lettuce from greenhouse as some bolted and some had gone brown.
