Allotment Diary November 2005

Tuesday 29th November
Mum and dad finished weeding strawberry bed and planted the 6 plants Karen had given us. Harvested a cabbage and a cauliflower.

Friday 25th November
Mum and dad harvested a swede, a cabbage and a cauliflower. Brought a bag of stones home. Dug out spinach plants as frosted and composted them. Weeded a little.

Wednesday 23rd November
Mum and dad weeded.

Thursday 17th November
Mum and dad lit fire again, pruned currant bushes as per label and books, ie. Black to 2”/50mm and Red half way down stems. Harvested a cabbage and some spinach.

Wednesday 16th November
Mum and dad continued weeding area for currant bushes, barrowed up some more manure and put some in planting holes with a sprinkle of growmore around roots. Spent all day again. Set weed bonfire going in the afternoon. Layout of fruit plants to date is as follows:

Tuesday 15th November
Mum and dad took currant bushes down and started clearing an area by rhubarb for them to go in. Spent all day with a lunch break at home weeding. Barrowed up some manure.

Monday 14th November
Mum and dad bought two red currant bushes Laxtons no.1 and Rovada.

Sunday 13th November
Mum and dad did some weeding again, brought a bag of stones home. Chris harvested a swede and dug up the remaining courgette plants and tidied. Bought two black currant bushes Ben Lomond and Ben Sarek. Watered lettuce and strawberry plants in greenhouse.

Thursday 10th November
Mum and dad harvested one large marrow and one courgette, the other large marrow had started to go soft. Dug out two of the courgette plants. Did small amount of weeding.

Tuesday 8th November
Mum and dad checked on fire, it had burn right down.

Monday 7th November
Mum and dad cut and moved black matting so some is where we park the car. Moved remaining piece on middle plot closer to the road. Burnt bonfire weed pile, took cardboard this time to get it started. Finished preparing bed for rhubarb, including one barrowful of leaf mould and compost mixed into each hole. Dug up and moved the 3 rhubarb plants from the back of the bottom plot. Weeded some more in front of shed and on bottom plot. Harvested a swede. Bought a bag of stones and glass home.

Saturday 5th November
Mum and dad started preparing bed in front of shed for rhubarb plants. Harvested a turnip and two cabbages.

Wednesday 2nd November
Mum and dad weeded, tried to burn bonfire again. Got some strawberry plants from Karen and put them in pots in the greenhouse for now. Brought big bag of rubbish home again. Dug out brambles from stonepile.

Tuesday 1st November
Mum and dad marked out plot in front of greenhouse for strawberry plants and weeded another couple of feet. Put two wheelbarrows of well rotted manure into a trough and then earth on top. Chris planted the six strawberry plants in single rows 30” apart.
