Allotment Diary April 2010

Saturday 24th April
Me and dad potted on the tomatoes and chillies in the greenhouse at home. They look good this year, not leggy at all as we planted later and moved them from the house into the greenhouse quickly.

Friday 23rd April
We went in the morning again and planted two more rows of potatoes.

Thursday 22nd April
We went in the morning before lunch and planted two more rows of potatoes.

Wednesday 21st April
In the morning I planted courgette – defender, cucumber – marketmore, sweetcorn – swift and sweetcorn – prelude.
We went in the afternoon and planted two rows of potatoes.
First Early – Pentland Javelin x15
Second Early – Nadine x19
Second Early – Wilja x26

Sunday 18th April
We went in the morning quite early and stayed until late afternoon. We all did lots of weeding and I did some digging over on the top plot nearest the road. Mum harvested some parsnips and I got some Rhubarb. Dad emptied the compost from the last ”dalek” bin.

Friday 16th April
We went in the morning and stayed until tea time. We did lots of weeding across all plots and have part of one still to do. The top plot needs weed killer on the back edge another day and the middle plot needs some serious attention too.

Sunday 11th April
We walked to the allotment with Sarah and the twins. Dad emptied another compost “dalek” and dug some of a plot. I spent time turning over soil and mum weeded between the over wintered onions and garlic.

Saturday 10th April
Me, mum and dad went before lunch. Me and mum weeded for and planted sturon onion sets and shallots – golden gourmet. Dad emptied two compost “daleks” and put it onto the bottom plot near the road side. Sarah met us there with the twins and we went home for lunch. A lovely warm summery day!

Friday 9th April
Me and mum tidied up the greenhouse in our garden a bit. We planted some seeds for the new season in trays and pots.

The seeds that I sowed on the 26th March indoors are coming on well. The salad leaf and radish in a trough I am not so sure about as it got a bit leggy.

Monday 5th April
Me, mum, Sarah, Alice and Emily went down on foot (and pushchair). We harvested Rhubarb, Parsnip and Leek.
